After the traumas of hiring a pitch, the new season got underway with an 8 wicket away defeat to Ewell CC, but not before we had made our opponents fight very hard for their victory.
On winning the toss, Shahid elected to bat on a surprisingly pudding like wicket. Keith and Ajmal both struggled to put bat to ball due variable bounce. The normally flamboyant Ajmal was initially watchful but as usual lost patience when he failed to connect playing an expansive stroke and was caught for 4.
Mark joined Keith and both found it hard going due to unpredictable bounce. Mark was bowled for 2. Shahid joined Keith and it looked like a stand was developing with Shahid's measured aggression and Keith's watchful approach putting on 19 runs, ending with Keith being bowled by a shooter.
After that it was a procession until final stand of 0 between John and Naren ended when John was run out trying to break the deadlock. Exiles all out for 74.
Following tea, Ewell began their reply on what now appeared to be better batting conditions. Naren opened the bowling for the Exiles but failed to trouble the batsmen and Anil from the other end occasionally troubled the batsmen and got an early breakthrough.
Midway through the match the heavens opened up and it seemed that Exiles might escape with a draw but the downpour didn't last long and the battle resumed after a short delay.
Masie got a second breakthrough but by then it was too late. Siyar and Yahya bowled well without any rewards. The match ended in the 22nd over with couple of boundaries.
