It was a good toss to win on a hot and humid day. Shahid chose to bat and in the absence of Keith it was Ajmal who accompanied Ansar.
It was all guns blazing right from the first over. In the first over a fine square cut for 4 and a second attempt at a similar stroke found the edge and went straight to the gully where the fielder, after several attempts, spilled a pretty straightforward chance.
After that life, Ansar took charge and he was despatching practically every ball to all parts of the ground. It was raining 4's and 6s. At the other end Ajmal taking inspiration from Ansar started opening his shoulders but was unable to time the ball as well as Ansar. However, he did manage to connect with one which was despatched out of the ground and the ball hit the roof of one of the houses before he fell for 31.
After the fall of the first wicket it was a familiar pattern. Apart from Ansar the rest found it heavy going. In order to get others some batting practice Ansar retired on 150 and after that wickets fell regularly with not much being added to the score. The last seven batsmen managed to add 38 runs and the innings closed on 243 from 35 overs.
SRK began the reply with billigerence keeping up with the required run rate and taking advantage of some loose bowling. Exiles were conceding practically two boundaries per over and some of the bowling changes did not work.
Naren was brought on to stem the flow of runs and it worked. Gradually the frequency of boundaries slowed and the run rate was brought under control, but Exiles needed wickets too, so Ansar was brought on and as on many occasions he delivered with two crucial wickets of the two set batsmen who were threatening to take the game away.
After the departure of these two batsman the chase fizzled out and Exiles won the game comfortably.
