Given the recent appalling weather, the sunshine and clear skies made a pleasant change as we played Morden Corinthians at Raynes Park.
Wayward early bowling from the Exiles was punished as Morden made a quick start to their innings. Matt Cook helped put the brake on by conceding only eight runs in his eight overs. The Morden innings concluded with a four-wicket maiden, including a hat-trick from Dave Sammut as they closed on 191 for 8.
In reply, Keith Roberts was dismissed in the first over (not hitting a catch straight to cover), before Mark Bradshaw and Amil Patel kept up with the run-rate in a fine second wicket partnership.
Amil was stumped for 38, and Quentin Davies helped keep Bradshaw company before being bowled for 27, and Bradshaw followed soon afterwards for 84 when victory and a century seemed within easy reach. The Exiles innings then petered out a bit, with only Dave Sammut (17) playing the bowling with confidence before being out to a fine running catch as we were defeated by seven runs.
