It was another scorching day for an Exiles fixture, against WICC, traditionally strong opponents with a number of players who play Surrey Championship 1st XI league cricket.

Skipper Plume lost the toss and WICC understandably elected to bat. Exiles's bowling effort got off to a fine start, with openers Naren Patel and Jibran Ahmed both picking up wickets in economical opening spells (Ahmed bowling 3 maidens in his 7 over spell).

Change bowlers Faisal Musakhel and Alex Roberts carried on the probing spells, with Musakhel getting appreciable movement despite a rapidly wearing ball in dry conditions. Alex Roberts removed the dangerous stand-in skipper Nikul with an in-ducker, and the Exiles, through a combination of good bowling and fielding, were restricting an able batting line-up well.

WICC however, bat deep, and the middle order rapidly accelerated in the final 10 overs despite the best efforts of Andy Wingfield and Yahya Khan. Still, restricting a talented WICC side to 175-6 from 35 overs felt like a really good effort in tough conditions.

Sadly the Exiles chase never really got off the ground, as a solid WICC bowling unit mixing guile and pace consistently made in-roads. Bernard Leuvennink unfurled some trade-mark drives in a brisk 29, and there were some customary lusty blows from Wingfield and Khan. Nonetheless, some wily bowling including from an 11-year-old leg-spinner proved too much for the Exiles, who slumped to 107 all out.

Alex Roberts, with a promising spell of 2-25 (generating decent in-swing and bounce in the process) was named man of the match.
