Well, what a bizarre game.  On a very hot day , exiles thankfully won the toss and sensibly went into bat.

However, things did not start well, as Plume, deceived by a yorker, was soon back in the 'pavilion'.  It got worse, as the variable bounce and 'action' from the other end soon accounted for Parkinson and Lenton.

It was up to batting legends, Roberts and Leuvennink to first rebuild and then impose a decent total.  They did this with aplomb, as the exhausted Merton fielders chased around the field in vain.

It was an excellent effort and the only moments of concern was the possibility of distraction from our own, overly keen, vocal players, hoping that more singles would be taken and ones turned into twos, but it was bloody hot and we really couldn't have asked for anymore.  I think a few fancied a  bat.

After a good tea, it was up to Merton to challenge our good total.  To be fair, they never really got going, due to pretty decent, accurate bowling.

The one moment of controversy, which really seemed to put the game to bed, came from a highish full toss from Gundry, resulting in the wicket of their skipper.

The call could have gone either way, but seemingly in protest, the oppo decided to block out the final 30 overs for very few runs.  Bowlers were happy for the practice and economy rates, if nothing else.

Overall, Exiles were grateful for the win, but there was a general underwhelmed feeling at the end.
