A match that all week looked highly unpromising due to under-staffing for both clubs turned out to be a cracking encounter as Agricola held on to beat Exiles by 3 runs at Chiswick.
A 9 a side fixture had been agreed the day before but Agricola's line up was further reduced on the day by a no show. However both sides willingness to get the game on - with both sides providing sub fielders throughout each innings - meant that the lack of players was barely noticed. Particularly as the pitch proved very good for batting.
Exiles won the toss and bowled. A suprising early shower didn't liven up what immediately looked to be a flat Chiswick surface and Agricola built steadily. Moynihan (1 for 10) bowled superbly up the hill however and was unfortunate not to take a wicket in his first spell. It was left to Zieleniewski to pick up the first wicket for the Exiles and the returning Naren Patel - who everyone was pleased to see was bowling as metronomically as ever - soon followed up the initial strike with one of his own as Almond (41) played on.
But this brought together Taylor (53) and Thody (45no) for Agricola and they accelerated the innings nicely in partnership of 95. Moynihan did return to finally break up the partnership and there was also a late wicket for Wingfield, but Agricola had done enough to post a strong score of 194 for 4.
The early losses of Lamprecht - playing against his usual team mates - and Kerrison saw a limited Exiles line up in a precarious position of 31 for 2. But a fine 3rd wicket partnership of 125 between Searle (40) and the hard-hitting Moynihan (68) put Exiles back in the game - with Terence hitting 3 sixes in quick succession on the way to bringing up a maiden Exiles half century.
When Moynihan was finally run-out, a late flourish from Wingfield with 37 off 21 got the Exiles close, but it was just not quite enough.
An enjoyable game of cricket certainly, but Exiles seem to have picked up a knack of losing close games recently.

Interview with Man of the Match: Terence Moynihan
Terry very well played on reaching your maiden Exiles fifty - you must be really pleased?
Yes thanks very much. I am really pleased to get my maiden fifty for the club. Its my third season for exiles and in the past two seasons I feel that I hadn’t really clicked into gear with the bat but its steadily improving and I’m quite happy with my performances so far this season.
At what stage did you feel the landmark might be on?
Once I got to about 35 I felt in really good nick and i thought to myself not to panic because the pitch was great to bat on and the opposition were offering a few balls an over to play a more expansive shot so I was quite confident that I would reach the fifty this time around.
What was your favourite shot?
My favourite shot had to be the six I hit to reach the fifty. I knew I was in the forties but not too sure where in the forties but once it went over the boundary the guys let me know.
There must be some frustration you got out the way you did and also that the side couldn't quite get the win?
Yes i was slightly frustrated but the right call was made for the run and I kept on running and the mistake was mine not to stay in the crease. The game was so close in the end and its disappointing that we didn’t get the win but the guys put up a really good fight in the end to try and get over the line, the two players being Andy and George.
Have you scored many fifties in your cricketing career to date?
This is my second fifty of my cricketing career.
You're more known to the Exiles as a bowler - do you consider yourself a genuine all-rounder?
I don’t really consider myself as an all rounder but as I’ve said I’m steadily improving with the bat and hope at some stage to be an all rounder.
What are your next cricketing targets?
One of my targets in the beginning of the season was to score 150 runs or over for the season and I’m close to doing that at the moment so the next targets would be to take 20 wickets for the season and to score another fifty in the remaining matches.
