In what was a brief but action packed match, The Exiles once again won easily, although on this occasion it was a bit of an inside job, as 4 players were gifted to us by Beddington to allow us to make a full side who really stuck it to their mates (thankfully for our benefit)
That aside, it was more of the same for Captain Chris as he lost his 3rd toss of the season and continued a 100% toss loss for the Exiles in 2015. (Currently now 0-4)
As a team we need to support our poor tossing captain through what must be a difficult time. This is perhaps best solved with some intense strong handed tossing at home, with a Wisden in the other hand for added inspiration.
An unfortunate thumb injury was also delivered to Chris and I hope above all it is not his tossing hand!!!
Beddington chose to bat on what turned out to be a fairly lively pitch. Simon Gundry turned in yet another Man of the Match Performance with a miserly 4 for 6 off 5.4 Overs, and broke the back and the hearts of the opposition. Andy Wingfield quietly picked up 3 sticks for 20 runs, and 7 wickets between the opening pair equals a good days work and not too much chasing of the red leather for the chaps in the field.
I have to say standing at point that it was a real sight to behold! (as Richie would say)
Terence ably supported from the other end in his first game of the season, and his new(ish) bowling boots made the difference as he had some serious wheels, which resulted in a well taken catch at 1st slip by the Skipper.
This magnificent catch further underlined the consistency of the Exiles in the field, with the last dropped catch being way back in week 2 by Will Clephane, who is no doubt anxiously waiting in the wings to smash another big score to atone for his unfortunate error in the field.
Beddingtion wickets fell regularly and their innings was never allowed to get going, and with further important contributions from our ringers, the opposition turned in a paltry 79.
Response:
With rain falling over the tea interval and some wind about, it was not going to be an easy reply.
Drew and Chris opened, and both managed to keep their heads and grind the opposition down, in the face of some added skid and bounce off the track from the rain.
Drew also needed to make amends for the mental aberration and poor batting display in the previous week vs Agricola, and they both successfully set to their task of building a platform.
An unfortunate rip-snorter from the Opening bowler caught Chris square on the thumb and this forced his retirement a few balls later.
The groundwork had fortunately been done by the time of his retirement, and Moin Khan replaced Chris with the sole intention of placing a ball from Beddington Park into the ongoing test match at Lords.
He fell a fair bit short of his goal, but did manage to smash the ball to all parts and knocked the stuffing out of the opposition. His 28 off 20 was the hammer blow and Exiles were home and hosed without losing a wicket inside 18 overs.
Another empathic win for the Exiles, we move on Surbiton Imperials where the Exiles will look to build on their 3 wins on the bounce.
After the bank holiday, the selectors will continue to face increasing difficulty in choosing the team from the wealth of talent this club currently possesses, and dare I say Exiles are in rude health in all departments.
To those players who were not able to contribute (a special mention has to go to Bernard here who was warming his pads eagerly awaiting a wicket to fall, Exiles thank you for your participation and punctuality), and look forward to calling on you in our hour of need, of which there will be many in the course of this season.
