The Exiles visitied Thamesfield for the second time ever following last year's close game between the two sides which had resulted in a one wicket victory for Thamesfield.

The home side batted on what looked a good pitch. The Exiles suffered an early setback when Naren Patel had to withdraw from the attack with an ankle injury. Against a depleted attack Thamesfield made a good start before the openers where seperated by the bowling of Robin Airey. Debutant Gwyn Thomas made an immediate impact taking a wicket in his first over. Gwyn continued to bowl excellently swinging the ball away from the right hander at a steady medium pace and finished with figures of 8 for 42 from 14 overs. This spell included a hat-trick and produced the best bowling figures recorded for the Energy Exiles. Thamesfield were bowled out for 153 with Jonty Tarbuck taking the final wicket.

However, the Exiles batting ruined this good performance in the field with the most dismal batting  performance yours truly has seen in his time at the club. The Exiles capitulated through a series of poor shots to some accurate medium pace bowling, at one time being 11 for 7. The score was only restored to some measure of respectability (?) by some late hitting by David Coles (8) and James Airey (7 - in his first ever game) as the Exiles finished 27 all out.

Man of the match was undoubtedly Gwyn Thomas. However, his performance was rather overshadowed by the Exiles' disastroous batting performance that followed. Improvement will be required as the next opponents are Putney whose bowlers are in a class above the Thamesfield bowlers who have just so humiliated the Exiles. It is vital that the Exiles do not continue to rely on three or four players to score their runs or there will almost certainly be a repeat of such a performance.
