A much changed Exiles side, featuring 3 debutants, was comfortably beaten by Morden Corinthians at Raynes Park.
On being put into bat, the Exiles initially began well until Wil was well caught at mid-off. Having made 50 last time at this ground, Amil this time went cheaply and it was left to Jeremy Barrett, on his first Exiles appearance for a few years, with 39, and Johnny Hodgson, with a seasons-best of 24, to build the Exiles score. However both holed out in less-than-glorious fashion, tempted by the lack of pace in both the pitch and the bowling. The experiment of playing David Stiffell as a pinch-hitter at 5 failed to work as he departed first ball to the Corinthians best bowler - a spinner called 'Murali'. The rest of the Exiles middle-order failed to significantly contribute, leaving it to the untried partnership of Gwyn Thomas, newly promoted to no 10, and the guesting Graham Pinkney to try to move the score on as far as possible. Gwyn managed to smash a couple of fours on his way to 10 not out - the 3rd highest Exiles score of the day & a career best - before Graham was unfortunately caught close-in off a well hit shot. Exiles innings closed on 108 all out - a good 50 runs short of par.
With 10 overs play before tea, the 2 Andy's - Wingfield and Sammut - opened up the bowling to try to get some early wickets and get the Exiles back into the game. Despite some decent deliveries, none were forthcoming and the Corinthians were strongly in the ascendancy at 35-0 at tea. A switch to slower bowling was the only option remaining to the Exiles and almost immediately Gwyn, clearly in all-rounder mode today, struck - Johnny taking a decent catch at point. Soon after, Gwyn struck again to give the Exiles some hope. However it was a false dawn as the runs started coming again - Simon Richardson had bowled some unplayable spinners and swingers, but also some 4-balls - and the game appeared lost. At this point, Andy called on one final trick - the secret weapon that was Graham Pinkney. How would the Corinthians cope with their own bowler, who had ripped through the Exiles middle order with 4-15 only 2 weeks previously? Quite comfortably, as it turned out, though Graham did pick one wicket - a catch gloved behind to Amil. David Stiffell and Simon Myers were each given an over to turn their arm, but the Corinthians cruised home, scoring 109-3, winning by seven wickets.
Man of the Match for 10 not out and 2 for 17 was Gwyn Thomas.
