Things started ominously as M Zieleniewski immediately lost the toss to a delighted Emil Todorow, who gleefully chose to bat on a hot day. It turned out to be a very important toss to win as Bradshaw and Fewson found the Chiswick track to be as benign as ever; It took an excellent delivery from Wingfield that just straightened to take Bradshaw’s edge; A slightly less good delivery from the skipper then accounted for their number three, flicking one gently to square-leg. Fewson and Hassan started to tuck into the tired bowling, but thankfully Parker-Jones deceived the opener with a well-flighted one and the returning Gundry soon clean bowled their number 5. D Thomas then struck two useful blows removing the dangerous Amin and Hassan. Had exiles regained some control? Sadly not, as an inform Riaz Khan and solid Emil Todorow bludgeoned their way to a good score of well over 200.
This would take some effort from a weary looking outfit to chase down, and so it proved as the exiles never really got going. Q was quickly accounted for by Hassan and after a few early blows from Sri, Todorow had his man. It was left to JPJ and K Roberts to rebuild the innings and just when the partnership was looking settled an excellent catch from M Bradshaw behind square sent Parker-Jones on his way. Once again just when a batsmen was looking in, some more decent fielding found Scott short of his ground and Roberts was soon bowled by all-rounder Riaz. There’s always a chance with Gundry and Wingfield at the crease and the dangerous Thomas still to come in, but this was Nomads and in particular, Riaz’s day, who went on to further castle Gundry and Thomas. It was down to Hassan Khan to administer the last rites as he trapped Ling lbw for a comprehensive Nomad victory.
This was a baptism of fire in captaining for the first time and hopefully this would become less difficult in the future.
