The Exiles, eager to make amends for the previous Sunday's shambles, were invited to field by Wealdstone. Hilson, eager to "implement" what he had learned from watching Glenn in the Lords Test Match began with a devastating burst of sensible "hitting the top of off stump" bowling. Ably backed up with some good early catching and music from a nearby wedding Hilson and Gundry kept the runs down while taking wickets at regular intervals. Hilson even managed "to shatter the stumps" with one of his wickets after being let down Keith Roberts style by his fielders. The batsmen fought back well after this opening burst with some Flintoff-style blows to reach 106 all out. The Exiles fielding performance was a mixed bag with some good catches dispersed between some horrendous drops. Hilson recorded McGrath like figures of 5 for 13 off 12 overs, finally gaining some reward for all the huff-and-puff that he has put in this season. Who says that he is nothing more than a scruffy, rubbish poet with flowing locks?
The Exiles reply began well with Bradshaw and Scott playing circumspectly against a very quick bowler. Bradshaw unleashed the odd famous cut shot to remind the Exiles what they had missed the previous week. After Wil Scott's departure, Amil Patel came in and was playing quite sensibly until he was embarrassingly out in Michael Vaughan like fashion. Following Bradshaw's departure for a sensible 36 it was left to Hodgson and Hilson to see the Exiles home. Hilson's arrival to the crease was greeted by a "new batsman, Jason Gillespie" cry by the opposition fast bowler who decided to return the following over. However, Hilson in his eagerness not to face the fast bowler managed to play a few bully shots to finish the match while leaving Hodgson to face the fast bowler.
Man of the Match was Hilson for a superb bowling performance, a few bully shots, scoring (neatly) and providing the comedy.
