A bank holiday weekend saw us face familiar opponents Clapham Nomads, with former Exile Mark Bradshaw, at Chiswick. We had a number of absentees, but "super agent" Naren had brought in some top class replacements in Adam from OMT, Sri and debutant Nick, who had foolishly tried to get Naren to play for his side. Naren's persuasive powers leading to the inevitable, Nick playing for us.

Pitch D looked hard and relatively true. It has the usual 100/40 yard boundary split either side of the wicket but played relatively well with only a few rearing up or keeping low.

The Nomads made a confident and fairly brisk opening against Andy and Naren. There were a few close calls and a couple of close near run outs but Mark looked in ominous form and the Nomads moved to 44-0 off the first ten overs.

Adam and Mike came on first change, both bowling inswing. Adam, in particular, bowled very tightly and cut the run rate. The initial breakthrough brought a flurry of wickets with the Nomads reduced to around 65 for 4 off twenty. Mark remained immovable, but Adam and Mike removed the dangerous, big hitting, nomads middle order which led to an inquest into "sensible cricket" in the opposition changing room after the game.

Adam took 3 wickets, bowling extremely tightly. Mike continued to pick up wickets right through his spell and ended with 4 dismissals. Mark got better support from the lower order but the batting side were kept in check by some tight bowling by Gwyn, Nick and the returning Naren and Andy. A respectable total of 140 probably being a bit below par.

This target should not have caused too many problems for the Exiles but openers did not last too long. Quentin went first and Jasper soon followed. Fortunately, Sri was in excellent form playing some beautiful cuts and drives. Sri and John looked in little trouble in adding 83 and gradually boosted the run rate, getting to 98 in just over 20 overs. Both were out in quick succession, Sri narrowly failing to hit over the top to get the runs he would have needed for his half century.

With plenty of batting to come and only 40 required the Exiles were still on course. The Nomads pace bowler started to hit his stride and brought us problems with Mike and Nick dismissed quickly with one that kept a bit low and then a lifter which Nick gloved.

Will was looking composed after a good run of form and, with Andy, looked like they could see us home until Andy's leg stump was smashed in half leaving Nomads as slight favourites.

Adam and Wil got us to within 8 runs of victory before Adam was dismissed. Naren and Wil then did a great job to see us home with Naren looking untroubled and at times listening to Wil's calls not to run.
