A surprisingly sunny mid September day saw Exiles turn up for a prompt 1.00 pm start against Clapham Nomads. A strong Exiles line up was available and veteran opening bowler Naren sat the fixture out, deciding to umpire and watch nervously from the boundary. Nomads eclectic squad had been boosted by the mid season transfer of former Exiles batsmen Mark Bradshaw. Having won the toss and after some very droll comments Exiles started their innings later than the allocated start time.

Q and Keith picked up some runs before Q departed early and Keith having broken his bat and being given a replacement with a very slippery handle chipped a catch to a waiting Nomad fielder. Amil departed soon after with some encouraging fatherly words as he trudged off.

At 33 for 3 Parker-Jones and Tither were at the crease for the first time together and a key stage in the game unfolded with the next wicket falling at 96. A good understanding between the pair ensured some quick singles were grabbed and the scoreboard was kept ticking. The opening bowlers were seen off but there was still some uncertainty about the wicket and boundaries were very rare. Tither departed having made a gritty 31 and JPJ went on to 51 very valuable runs.

Wickets then tumbled but late innings highlights included a large six from skipper Wingfield and a quick 30 from Gundry which included four boundaries in four balls. A total of 158 seemed about par on a difficult wicket but Exiles needed to bowl well to continue the winning streak.

A decent tea was followed by skipper Wingfield steaming into bowl at former Exiles batsmen Bradshaw. Having virtually beamed his former colleague with the first two deliveries Andy then settled into a steady routine and bowled some unplayable balls which puzzled both batsmen and wicket keeper finishing with fine figures of 3 for 20. However Mr Bradshaw's prize wicket was still intact and he was defending his castle well.

As in the first half runs were difficult to come by with Uttley and Gundry keeping things tight and picking up a wicket each. Then came the Thomas twins, Martin was determined to make amends for his earlier run out having landed at the same end as Simon whilst batting. Martin produced a tidy spell and proved difficult to get away finishing with good figures of 2 for 12. His spell nearly included the prize scalp of the former Exiles player when Tither just managed to get his hand to the ball but it wouldn't stick and was grounded.

Enter man of the match Gwyn Thomas, Bradshaw had drilled a fierce drive past Gwyn and managed to injure the bowlers hand. Gwyn dismissed the option of taking a rest from bowling despite his obvious discomfort, figures of 3 for 17 proved his decision to continue bowling correct. Wickets had tumbled at regular intervals and as in the first innings scoring runs fluently was proving difficult so Mr Bradshaw had decided in was time to make a move. With what seemed like the last throw of the dice Mark made a wild swing and, to Gwyn and the rest of Exiles delight, missed. Nomads were all out for 94 with their last man being stumped by Amil. With Nomads well short of their target the day belonged to continued winning run of Exiles and motm Gwyn.
