On a warm and breezy day British Library won the toss and elected to bat on hard and dry pitch.
The two opening Library bowlers began excellently, especially Marke, who in his 2nd over accounted for both Keith and Amil (bowled by probably the best ball of the game).
However this only brought together Mark and Quentin together, who took the score onto 94 with a mixture of classy drives and hearty hits.
The 21st over saw the introduction of British Library strike bowler Ken Price.
In his first he found some vicious turn to bowl Mark. Two overs later Hutt bowled Davies who scored an excellent 47. The ever accurate Price then took two more wickets before some big hitting from Hilson and Stifell, some interesting pad work from Martin, and a delightful charge down the wicket from Naren saw the Exiles innings close on 162 for 9.
Both teams then retired to the pavilion to watch a wonderfully fluent England thrash plucky Ecuador 1-0.
The British Library innings faltered from the off, struggling to deal with the ever excellent Hilson, ably aided by the skipper, just back from a short excursion to Germany. With 5 early wickets the Exiles were confident of wrapping things up quickly but Library batsmen Michell and Mason responded brilliantly, mixing big hits with intelligent running. Wil and Martin were particularly harshly treated. Two more late wickets (including a superb catch from Martin) gave the Exiles some hope but it was too late and British Library won by 1 wicket in the last over.
For his vital knock of 47 Quentin Davies was man of the match.
