Energy Exiles fell to a 122 run defeat against old rivals in a game in which the batting once again let us down. On a hot day, WICC elected to bat first and began ominously before Andy Wingfield bowled the dangerous Indrajit with a well disguised slower ball. However, WICC continued to score at a fast rate until the introduction of Martin Thomas (2 for 32) slowed them down. Phil Chamberlain bowled well in his first game of the season and John Hodgson started well before taking some punishment as he tired in the heat. Naren Patel and Phil Chamberlain managed to get rid of the WICC tail quickly to get them all out for 207 when at one stage they seemed likely to score 250. This was an eminently gettable target on a reasonable wicket, but very fast outfield.
In reply, Mark Bradshaw and Amil Patel started brightly, running well between the wickets before both were caught at slip. John Tither (18) and Chris Edwards (a promising 19 runs which included some excellent drives) both batted positively as the Exiles kept up with the required run rate. However, a collapse saw us fall to 85 all out with Andy Wingfield out to very sharp slip catch. We suffered for not having enough regular top order batsmen available for this game, and those available i.e. Mark Bradshaw, Amil Patel, and John Hodgson not making a major score. However, the bowlers did a pretty good job and John Tither and Chris Edwards showed some promise with the bat.
Man of the match was Phil Chamberlain for 3 for 34.
