In previous weeks, the Exiles batting had been the subject of much criticism from yours truly. However, the bowlers must have felt left out as they decided to get into the act with an abject performance against North Croydon.
Following torrential rain the previous day, the Exiles were put in to bat on a very damp wicket that offered all the bowlers assistance. The Exiles stuttered to 38 for 5 before Amil Patel (32), Kristian Armstrong (17) and Robin Airey (17) mounted a creditable recovery to 101 all out. This was particularly commendable given the difficult conditions and how brittle the late middle order has been recently.
Gwyn Thomas took an early wicket in an accurate opening spell. This was followed by an assortment of filth from the rest of the Exiles bowlers who seemed to think that the batsmen had a weakness against the slow long-hop. North Croydon passed the Exiles total as soon as the 21st over for the loss of only two wickets. I will add no further comment other than to say that the description of the Exiles attack as "dung-throwers" springs to mind because they served up a load of old shit to the batsmen.
Man of the match for the third consecutive game was Amil Patel.
