Again the Exiles were faced with an appalling outfield at Overton Park, Sutton as they entertained Haud Magnum. Sutton Council seem to be making little effort with the upkeep of facilities, and this is one area the Exiles should seriously review at the AGM. However, in the view of this Exiles' performance, I think that perhaps we are only worthy of playing on a cow field!

On a green wicket the Exiles fielded first against Haud Magnum who are traditionally a strong batting side. The fixture between these sides at Chiswick early in the season had produced 350 runs. The first hour of the Haud Magnum's innings brought out the best Exiles fielding performance of the season so far with five catches being offered by the batsmen and all five being taken, the best being a difficult skier by Andy Loukes. Sam took all five of these wickets to finish his spell with career best figures of 5 for 20. The late order capitalised on a couple of missed chances to take Haud Magnum to 100 all out, which on such an abysmal outfield was probably worth about 130 in normal conditions.

The Exiles began their innings before tea and quickly lost Mark Bradshaw, caught behind. Soon after tea, Wil Scott was run out for 6. John Priestland put together a useful stand with Drew Patel to take the score to 50 before John was bowled for 14. There seemed little for the Exiles to worry about as they reached 69 for 3 with Drew Patel (37) in dominant form. Little did those present know that they were about to witness one of the most abject batting performances ever displayed by the Exiles as they lost their last seven wickets for seven runs, with the last six batsmen scoring precisely zero between them. The batsmen seemed to be seized by a collective fear as they threw away wickets to poor shots, largely through playing across the line to Haud Magnum's slow-medium bowler. This was even more disappointing as the Haud Magnum bowling attack is hardly the most fearsome we have come across.

This was probably the worst Exiles performance I have been involved in. It was likened to Dante's Inferno by one Exiles veteran, with the team experiencing ever increasing levels of agony. Both sides played extremely poorly, and could only be labelled "weak" in the Cricket Conference ratings. Much improvement is required!!

Man of the match for his good bowling was Sam Scott.
