Luke Butler and Mark Bradshaw made career-best scores in a resounding victory against the Tate Gallery who were led by Robin Airey. However, it was not all plain sailing for the Exiles as they were reduced to 9 for 2 against some fine medium-pace bowling from Airey and Alex Beard on a damp pitch of variable bounce.

After seeing off the threat of the opening bowlers, Butler and Bradshaw increased the scoring rate, putting on a mammoth record stand of 143 for the third wicket, with Butler playing shots all round the wicket and Bradshaw using his favourite square of the wicket shots. Both gave only one chance before Butler was finally dismissed for 63, far outstripping his previous highest score of 16.

Keith Roberts and Mark Bradshaw put on another 20 runs against the returning Alex Beard, before Bradshaw was caught behind off an attempted hook shot for a career best 85 when a maiden century was clearly in sight. Except for Roberts' 12 runs, the later batsmen made little impression as the Exiles finished on 195 for 7. The pick of the Tate Gallery bowlers were Alex Beard with 4 for 32 from 15 overs and Robin Airey with 2 for 21.

The Tate Gallery were unable to make any impression on the Exiles total after losing a wicket in the first over. A combination of indifferent shot selection and good bowling from Dave Hawes and Naren Patel led to the Tate being finally dismissed for 32, just before a downpour that would have saved the game. The Tate Gallery had no luck, with captain Airey being dismissed by a questionable lbw decision and the Exiles holding all their catches; the best being a sharp one-handed take by Dave Hawes at first-slip. Naren Patel finished with 2 for 10 and Dave Hawes 6 for 18.

The Exiles can take satisfaction from this victory with fine individual performances from Luke Butler, Mark Bradshaw, and Dave Hawes. Furthermore, the fielding was excellent throughout. Man of the match for the Exiles was Dave Hawes.
