The Exiles travelled to North Croydon to play one of their more challenging fixtures. On losing the toss, Chris Bunton found himself being invited to bat on a very hot afternoon.

A solid looking batting line-up compiled 170 all out. Keith Roberts crafted a fine 34, John Taylor played an exciting 62, while John Priestland weighed in with 38 punctuated with any number of his trademark pull shots. Mention should be made of debutant Surayan’s innings of 11 in his first ever game of cricket. However, the less said the better about the tail-end collapse from 166 for 6 to 170 all out, other than it pleased Naren Patel who remained unbeaten on four in his quest for the batting averages trophy.

All the North Croydon batsmen contributed as they mounted a fierce assault on the Exiles bowling. However, the Exiles attack, particularly Matt Cook (2 for 28 in 12 overs) stuck gamely to their task. The brave introduction by Chris Bunton of Keith Roberts to the attack as he weighed in with two late wickets. Finally, North Croydon found themselves hanging on for the draw at 156 for 8 in an exciting finish. With the exception of one diabolical mistake by Amil Patel, the fielding was sound throughout.

A fair result between two evenly matched teams, and more satisfyingly a good Exiles performance. Man of the match was top-scorer John Taylor.
