As the Exiles arrived at Chiswick the heavens opened soaking everyone. However, after a short delay, the cricket was underway, British Library being invited to bat. The Library made a good start against some inaccurate bowling, putting on over 50 for the first wicket. Gwyn Thomas rescued the Exiles by taking 5 for 24 with his medium pace away swingers to wreck the Library innings. British Library closed on 122 all out, which included an annoying last wicket stand of 15, which almost cost the Exiles dear. Matt Cook made a promising debut, taking 2 for 9.

Keith Roberts and Mark Bradshaw made a solid start, putting on 23 before both fell in quick succession. This was a prelude to a collapse to 46 for 4. Wil Scott (19) and Nick Creak helped turn matters round in a stand of 22. Another trickle of wickets (including Bunton first ball) left the Exiles in trouble at 100 for 8. In tense circumstances, Matt Cook defended well with Creak to add the 23 required for victory by two wickets. Nick Creak finished unbeaten for a very disciplined 30 not out.

The Exiles made hard work of what should have been an easy victory. We must guard against such complacency in the future. Man of the match was Gwyn Thomas.
