A strong North Croydon side very nearly snatched victory in an exciting encounter in which a draw was probably the fair result. North Croydon won the toss and batted, but opening bowlers, Nick Creak (1 for 27) and Jeff Hilson (1 for 26) soon removed both openers. North Croydon mounted a recovery, but Naren Patel (3 for 23), Robin Airey (1 for 33), and Chris Bunton (1 for 6) all bowled well to restrict North Croydon to 132 for 7. The bowlers were supported by some good ground fielding, but several catches were put to ground by experienced players who in the words of an Exiles veteran “should be ashamed of themselves”.

Wil Scott and Keith Roberts put on 38 runs against some fine bowling on an awkward pitch before Wil was bowled for 14. Keith then opened up with some glorious attacking shots including an on-driven six as he and Mitesh Dhanak compiled a half-century partnership. With victory in sight though, the Exiles collapsed with Roberts (57), Dhanak (10), and Bradshaw (0) falling in quick succession. Nick Creak (10) and Kristian Armstrong (12) made an enterprising stand before another collapse took the Exiles to the brink of defeat. Naren Patel and Robin Airey survived a last over run-out scare to see the Exiles to safety at 125 for 9.

The Exiles should have won this game easily, but were let down by some rather ordinary batting. Keith Roberts was man of the match for his fine fifty.
