Profile
The modestly self-styled "Jack of all trades" has pedigree as a high-class all-round "village green" cricketer which can be added to an already lengthy CV of sporting excellence. Whether strutting his stuff on six-a-side soccer pitch, showing glimpses of Zubriggen on the glamorous pistes of Europe, or by going round in "close to par" at the notorious Belfry championship course - this man can turn his hand to any activity with club, cue, bat and ball in what will surely end up as a stella non-first class sporting career.
Bowling his trademark late in-swingers at more than a lively pace, "Ling the swing" has first roughed-up and then castled many a village green opener when on his game. Opposition allegations of "Ling the sling" have been continually rebuffed - his action "in the clear" Phil seldom wastes any effort with no balls.
Batting-wise too, this man-of-many-talents has the ability to more than hold an end up (he once contributed a vital 0 not out from 40 odds balls in a partnership of 76). Add his athletic close fielding into the mix (Ling loves nothing more than breathing down a batsman's neck "in the box" at Silly mid-on), his nickname of "Cat" must surely only be due to sharing a first name, rather than any similarity in outfield ability, with Middlesex's (and the Jungle's) finest.
Whether hobnobbing with the political elite - he claims to count daughters of certain senior MPs amongst his contacts - or grinding it out up-hill and into the wind, young Phil promises nothing short of "honesty, integrity, and 110% professionalism" whether caressing the willow or steaming in at full cry with the crimson rambler.
