Exiles made the journey to our former home ground, King's House Sports Ground Chiswick, to face old rivals Agricola on a cloudy day with rain forecast. Both teams only had 9, but a game could at least be played.

Bearing in mind the impending rain and not wanting to bat on a wet, and potentially sticky wicket, Exiles upon winning the first toss of the season chose to bat first.

Exiles batting this season has been of a mixed bag, and very reliant on Keith Roberts excellent form, and sadly this innings was no different. Although on this occasion except for a couple of dismissals, the batsman were got out, rather than giving their wickets away. Agricola were accurate, nagging with seam and swing.

Losing regular wickets Exiles were soon 50 for 5 when Evan Roberts strode out to bat with his father, Keith. Fortunately for the game, and captain Ling’s hopes of rain coming later, the pair put on a 45 run Partnership and ate up a lot of overs in the process. Evan showed a great defence, reminding us a lot of the batsman at the other end.

Exiles managed 103 from 35 overs, when a much worse score was on the cards, with Keith top scoring with 64.

Sadly this was never enough, especially when forecasted rain didn’t arrive! Agricola played with typical positivity, although not helped with a poor opening spell from Ling. Almond, a Legend of Agricola batting, got another 50 against us and anchored their team to victory in 18 overs.

All done and dusted by about 6pm. It wasn’t a great match, but was good to see a young player like Evan develop and chance to catch up with old friends. At 8pm the heavens opened and it rained non-stop that night. Bloody met office weather forecast.
