Exiles made it 3 wins from 3 with an emphatic 10 wicket victory over the Clapham Nomads at Raynes Park.

During the preceding week the Exiles side looked shorn of a lot of regulars putting the fixture in doubt, but Narens recruiting skills ensured a 10 man side was achieved, fortified with 4 debutants - Rehan, Amir, Sahir and Zeeshan - who all proved to be very capable players.

With the 1.30 start predicatably missed by nearly an hour, on winning the toss the Nomads conflab decided on the highly questionable decision to bat first on a green, muddy and inconsistent looking surface, with only 1 new ball agreed for the match.

To be fair, Mahesh and Darwin worked hard in the early overs and did a reasonable job of putting on 19 for the first wicket in nearly 10 overs before Exiles-chief-wicket-taker-of-the-season-so-far Phil had Mahesh very well caught by Rehan. 2 balls later and Phil had Exiles-regular-but-playing-for-the-Nomads-today Shahid very well snaffled by Keith at slip and Exiles were in the wickets.

And the wickets continued to fall as Sahir picked up Darwin and Riaz and Andy had the dangerous Zia caught behind sweeping second ball as Zeeshan showed excellent reactions to hold on behind the stumps. The match seemed all but over at 35 for 5.

The Nomads at least ground out their remaining overs with the highest partnership of the innings being 26 between the classic pairing of Nick Lefebvre and Emil Todorov - who occasionally used their bat but also sagely benefited from 22 runs of their partnership coming in extras.

The innings closed on 84 for 8 which was never likely to be anywhere near enough, par score probably being 150 or so on a pitch that was now easing. But none-the-less this was a very consistent bowling performance from the Exiles and some very sharp catches were taken. Credit also to Evan who bowled his best Exiles spell of the season so far with 1 for 7 from his 6.

Having travelled from Essex to play for the Exiles, captain Phil elected Rehan and Amir to open the batting and the 2 debutants took advantage of this opportunity by smashing the Exiles home in just 8.2 overs with powerful, if occasionally agricultural hitting - with 7 boundaries and 4 maximums.

It would have been interesting to see how the game might have materialised if the Exiles had batted first, but whilst this scoreline was harsh on the Nomads, the Exiles took full advantage of the opportunities presented to them.

So 3 wins on the spin, and some positive momentum for the club. Away at Chiswick next week to take on Agricola.
