Nomads overcome short-handed Exiles

A fine all-round performance from Hassan Khan enabled Clapham Nomads to chase down 206 in a 35-over match at Nursery Road.

After a heavy shower as the players arrived, it looked like it would be an important toss to win. Nomads skipper Emil was in luck, and inserted the Exiles on a green looking wicket. After Exiles skipper Chris Plume fell early to Khan’s accurate pace, Craig Williams and Vishal Shete organised the fightback and put on an impressive partnership of 87. Williams was much the aggressor in the second wicket stand, hitting six fours and a maximum over the fence onto the adjacent tram tracks. Williams fell to Todorov for 61, and Dominic Hodgson joined Shete and added a rapid 35. Shete advanced past 50 and moved through the gears, only to pull his hamstring in the dying moments of the Exiles innings, ruling him out of taking the field after tea.

This injury left the Exiles with 9 fielders, one of whom was already injured in the courageous form of Steve Parkinson. Exiles were loaned a Fielder by the opposition however, hamstrung by the numerical disadvantage, runs were difficult to stop and Khan, batting at 4, was ably assisted by opener Prasanth to take full advantage. Opening bowlers Terence Moynihan and Marcin Zieleniewski were accurate and economical but the Nomads always looked confident in their chase, and were duly victorious by seven wickets with an over to spare. A difficult afternoon for the Exiles but they can look to a couple of weeks time to respond when the two sides meet again.
