Exiles were back playing at Dundonald Rec and considering the majority of the team lived within 2 miles of the ground, at the toss, skipper Chris Plume only had 5 players there. He won the toss, and based on the players there as well as last weeks performance, chose to bat first.

Surbiton Imperials bowled very tightly, with one opening bowler getting swing through the air at a decent pace. Openers Jasper and Wil started to get going, when a flurry of wickets fell with less than 10 overs gone. Chris and Dominic set out to rebuild and also look to be positive. Chris played beautifully to accelerate through his innings and was eventually out for a superb 61 off only 67 balls. The rest of the Exiles batting stepped up and solid attacking innings from Bernard, Simon and Andy gave a very good total of 213.

After another great tea from Jasper, Surbiton started their innings in very positive manner, throwing the bat at anything “in the zone” as opposed to bad bowling. However, this meant wickets were falling regularly. Surbiton were well on top of the required run rate, but Exiles were confident of taking wickets. It was all evenly poised, when a catch was dropped off Ling’s bowling just before the drinks break which would have left Surbiton 4 down with over 120 runs left to chase.

Surbiton changed their approach a little with quick singles being taken and less risks taken. That and the odd boundary kept things ticking over. Exiles were unable to take enough wickets or bowl / field quite tight enough to put the pressure on. In the end Surbiton got home relatively easily with 1.2 overs to spare.

A close match between two evenly matched teams, Exiles were on the whole disappointed not to have defended 213, especially given the bowling attack and fielding ability available. A noticeable difference between the teams was the running of quick singles, which relieves pressure on the batting team and can frustrate the fielding team.
