After battling through the flood waters of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at a Raynes Park bathed in glorious sunshine.

The skipper arrived and we quickly realised that we had no stumps, which was rather embarrassing considering we were the home side. I failed to convince the bar lady at the much improved Old Wimbledonians ground (for those old enough to remember the old civil service sports ground) to let us borrow some. Fortunately she was susceptible to Andy's youthful good looks and the game could go ahead.

Much to everyone's surprise Andy managed to win a toss and elected to bat.

A much changed Exiles side (Mike, Owen, Chris, Andy and myself being the only reasonably regular Exiles) busily introduced themselves to each other and the game finally got underway.

Mike and Wil opened and immediately took the attack to the opposition dealing harshly with a mixture of short and over-pitched deliveries. The first to go was Wil, caught uncharacteristically going for one big hit too many for 26. Mike continued on his merry way, though there was some controversy after he refused to walk after been given out caught off his pads. After Mike's eventual departure for a well made 32, the runs started to dry up. A mixture of better bowling and some interesting lbw decisions saw no-one apart from Owen getting into double figures. In our last 6 overs we only managed to score 18 runs.

Defending a total of 117, the two old pros Andy and Wil opened the bowling. With both bowling an excellent line and length, the Dodgers opening batsmen struggled to score runs. Wil snared both his victims by using the long forgotten Nick Creak tactic of bowling low full tosses, the first bowled and the second an excellent catch by Tim.

After Owen successfully bowled another Dodger batsman it seemed that the opposition had too much to do, needing 87 off about 11 overs, but they showed how bat without taking many risks against some very rusty bowlers, being particularly brutal on one Mike over.

They passed our total in the 18th over, and we quickly retired to the lovely Raynes Park Tavern, bringing back distant memories of drunkenly trying to teach French students how to play cricket with two legends of Exile's cricket Steve Speed and Steve Hodgson.

A big thank you to Mike and Martin for bringing so many players, it's very lucky they both seem to have an endless supply of friends.

Special mention should go to Johnny for his excellent keeping (his first time), even though some of his Graham Dovey like takes in front of his face were a bit worrying.

Man Of The Match goes to Wil Scott for his 26 runs and bowling figures of 2-15.
