After “The Lord Mayor’s Show”, the season concluded with a rather disappointing defeat as nine-man Exiles crashed by 13 runs to Barnes Occasionals despite Miles Beale’s efforts of 5 for 12 and 26 runs.
After Beale, with the help of Matt Cook (3 for 37) and Keith Roberts (2 for 10) had dismissed the Occasionals for only 87, Exiles could only manage 74 all out in reply, largely thanks to the 26 from Beale and 24 from John Priestland.
Player of the season (measured on number of Man of the Match awards) was deservedly Chris Bunton for some very penetrative bowling performances with his “dolly mixtures” and “liquorice allsorts”, not to say some unbelievably improved batting efforts. It is hoped that the Exiles can continue to improve on the successes of 2000 and record more victories than defeats in 2001.
