Unabombers caught out…

Exiles beat Unabombers by 8 wickets at Joseph Hood Rec. to pick up an eleventh win of the 2025 season on Sunday.

Making a habit of now bowling first, Exiles won the toss and had to wait until the 12th over for a breakthrough with the score on 58 as Naren took advantage of some inconsistent bounce to induce a top edge, well held by Nadeem running back at slip.

There followed a key passage of play as the old adage of catches win matches came into force as first Asad and then Andy took excellent catches to dismiss two key Unabombers cheaply. And with a run out and the other opener edging Waleed behind Exiles were suddenly well on top.

Unabombers lower order showed plenty of ability however and they recovered their side somewhat from 76 for 5 to 166 all out with Waleed finishing on 4 for 36 and Saeed 3 for 32.

The reply followed a similar script to last week as Asad once again powered the Exiles home with a beligerent hundred, albeit riding his luck this week with several plays and misses and benefiting from several dropped catches – and when he was finally caught, the fielder stepped over the boundary.

Young Fahad also showed good ability with an aggressive 27. Another excellent win for the Exiles, West Wimbledon at Dundonald Rec next week.

Ton up Asad powers Exiles home..

Asad smashed his third hundred of his debut Exiles season as Exiles coasted home by 10 wickets against Karnataka at Joseph Hood Rec.

Bowling first 3 wickets for Nadeem – taking him to 38 for the season followed by 3 for skipper Shahid (3 for 24) and debutant Waleed (3 for 42) restricted Karnataka to 140 all out.

It was never enough as Asad, with Darwin (32 not out) in reliable support, powered Exiles home in quick time with his third century of the summer, taking his Exiles season total to 666 – which is a club record – passing Mark Bradshaw (574 in 1998).

On to Unabombers at the same venue next week.

Exiles edge Ploughmans classic…

Exiles beat Ploughman’s by 5 runs in a pulsating high scoring encounter on Sunday.

On winning the toss on a hot day, Exiles batted and Asad soon smashed 72. But wickets fell regularly and Exiles were never able to fully exploit conditions – despite contributions throughout – and were bowled out for 222 nearly 3 overs short of using their full 40 over allocation.

Nadeem struck twice early and Ansar also picked up an early wicket as Ploughmans were wobbling at 24 for 3 before a terrific partnership of 138 for the 4th wicket brought them right back into the match – with Harry Edmonds scoring 103.

Shah Faisal Khan made the breakthrough, but Ploughmans were still in a good position until the returning Nadeem finally got Edmonds to make it 208 for 5. Thereafter Nadeem took 3 more wickets to finish with a superb 6 for 28 and Ghulam chipped in with 2 further important wickets as Ploughmans collapsed to be all out for 217.

An excellent win for the Exiles. Karnataka at Joseph Hood rec next Sunday.

Exiles win in Kenley…

Exiles won by 34 runs away at Kenley on Sunday.

Batting first Exiles powered out of the blocks thanks to 34 from Asad and 48 from Shahid, with Darwin anchoring with a fine 58. Exiles batted all the way down their order and later contributions from Siyar and Andy ensured momentum was continued throughout the overs and Exiles closed on a decent 229 for 7 off their 35 overs.

Kenley’s response was very good with a partnership of 90 for the first wicket as Krithick powered his way to 76 for Kenley and seemed uncatchable. Skipper Shahid eventually found the breakthrough with a double strike and after a run out, Abdul struck with the key wicket of Krithick – well stumped by John behind the stumps.

Thereafter the game was safe for the Exiles and most of the Exiles lineup was allowed a bowl.

Ploughmans in Dulwich next week.
