Exiles tied a dramatic low-scoring game with Ploughmans at Nursery Road.
On winning a good toss, Ploughmans reached 57 for 0 before good bowling by first changers Leuvennink (2 for 14) and Zieleniewski (1 for 12) restricted the flow of runs. With spinners Plume and Roberts also picking up 3 wickets the rest of the Ploughmans innings subsided to 127 for 9 off their full 35, with Wingfield (2 for 31) also striking twice in the final over.
Roberts (53) compiled a steady half-century for the Exiles in reply, but wickets were lost at the other end – most notably to the oppos Lonnen who finished with 4 for 7 off 7. At 16 for 3 Exiles were in trouble, but Kent (37) joined Roberts in a fine partnership of 94 that should have won the game. However when the breakthrough came, Exiles collapsed from 110 for 3 to 127 for 8 and couldn’t scramble a last ball single.
Credit to Ploughmans for the fightback and also recalling Leuvennink for an lbw decision that he had clearly hit. A good game, with Exiles feeling this was one that got away. Final game – home to Surbiton Imperials – next week.
