Terence Moynihan – 5-fer interview

On 3 August 2014, Exiles new recruit Terence Moynihan took 5 for 12 – with all wickets clean bowled – as the Exiles beat Ploughmans CC. This was the first 5 wicket haul by an Exiles bowler since July 2012. The Exiles website caught up with Terence to hear his thoughts on the feat:

Terence, very well bowled, it must’ve been a very good feeling to get a 5 wicket haul?

Yes thanks very much, it certainly is an awesome feeling to get a five wicket haul, one that I will never forget and it will live long in my memory as one of the better cricketing days that I’ve had. Once I got my fourth wicket I was so eager and keen to claim my fifth scalp.

Have you had many in your cricketing career to date?

That is my first ever five wicket haul and I’ve been close a few times on four wickets but everything came together so nicely and the cricketing gods were smiling at me on the day.

You took all your wickets clean bowled – is this your usual preferred wicket-taking method?

I like mixing it up when I’m bowling and I will try and work out which shot the batsman likes playing most and bowl accordingly but if memory serves me correctly most of my wickets have been caught behind or bowled.

Have you played a lot of cricket in your life so far? What do you make of bowling in English conditions?

I’ve played a fair amount of cricket, not as much as some of you guys haha and I didn’t play much cricket in my school in South Africa as I couldn’t make the side in Senior School cricket but I joined a club three years after that and played five seasons of second side club cricket where my passion for the game developed. I played a season in Milton Keynes for a Sunday Side which was my first taste of English conditions and its generally cooler in the summer here compared to hot and humid conditions back in South Africa so its more bowler friendly conditions here and you can push a bit of a longer spell. The wickets do offer for both bat and ball.

How have you enjoyed your first few games with the Exiles?

I’ve really enjoyed my first few games and thanks to Bernard for telling me about the club. All the Exiles players are really good cricketers and a great bunch of lads and they have all made me feel very welcome. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season.

Any cricketing targets ahead?

I hope to score a fifty this season and get my wicket haul up to about 20 wickets for the season.

Terence, many thanks for your time, and here’s hoping for a few more 5 wicket hauls from you along the way in your Exiles career!
